FUN! JAPAN — Amanohashidate Editorial Journey

About This Project

Sometimes, the best way to understand a place is to move through it at its own pace.

Overview

In 2022, we were commissioned by FUN! JAPAN to produce editorial imagery for Amanohashidate, one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views.

Rather than rushing from one landmark to another, we documented the destination as visitors naturally experience it—ascending the mountain by single-seat chairlift, overlooking the famous sandbar from above, and returning by cable railway while observing the landscape gradually unfold from a different perspective.

Photography Approach

Travel photography is more than documenting a destination; it is about preserving the rhythm of the journey.

We focused on the quiet moments between viewpoints: handwritten wishes hanging from pine trees, the slow ascent above the forest canopy, the expansive panorama across Miyazu Bay, and the changing perspective during the descent. Each image was composed to communicate the atmosphere of being there, rather than simply recording what could be seen.

Outcome

The final collection presents Amanohashidate as an experience rather than a checklist of attractions.

By combining landscape, movement, and small human moments, the photographs invite viewers to travel through the destination instead
