As part of our Taiwan Heritage Collection, we visited Tainan Waterworks Museum to document a place where architecture, engineering, and history exist together.
Built during the Japanese colonial period, the Tainan Waterworks played an important role in the development of Taiwan’s modern water infrastructure. Today, the preserved facilities remain as a reminder of the craftsmanship and technological progress of that era.
Through photography, we focused on the relationship between industrial structures and their surrounding environment — from the symmetrical arrangement of the filtration facilities and aged steel machinery to the architectural details shaped by decades of history.
Beyond being a historical site, Tainan Waterworks Museum represents how forgotten spaces can be transformed into places of learning and appreciation. It allows visitors to understand the stories behind the systems that quietly supported everyday life.
Through this self-initiated project, we hope to introduce Taiwan’s cultural and architectural heritage to a wider audience, sharing these overlooked places with people around the world and preserving the beauty found within time.
